An opinion poll has confirmed Aisha Jumwa’s popularity not only in Coast but the entire country, compared to her possible 2022 challenger for the Kilifi gubernatorial race, Gideon Mung’aro. The poll conducted between September 5-10, 2019 sampled a total of 582 Kenyans.

Jumwa was endorsed by 393 respondents (68%), while Mung’aro managed 189(32%). The two are likely to be the main two horses in a battle of titans to take over  from Governor Amason Jefwa Kingi.

Gideon Mung’aro is the current Cabinet Administrative Secretary(CAS) for lands, and the ODM preferred candidate for the Kilifi seat. The former Jubilee candidate for the same post in 2017 is expected to defect to ODM.

Hon. Aisha Jumwa when she joined the Deputy President H.E William Ruto and other several leaders at a youth and women empowerment program in Mtwapa on Friday, September 13, 2019.

Hon. Aisha Jumwa, who is the Malindi ODM MP is not yet known which party she will use as her vehicle to contest. Speculations are that she’s likely to run under a different party other than ODM and Jubilee, which she has blamed for enslaving the Coast people.

The Malindi MP has an upper hand against her rival due to her prolific grassroots mobilization and rhetoric skills. She is among the few gifted orators from the region who is fearless, bold and articulate.

Mung’aro, a known chain smoker is a poor orator and mainly prefers indoors meetings. He is hardly in touch with the commoners in parts of Kilifi such as Ganze, Kilifi South, Rabai and Kaloleni. His greatest undoing is the famous Dabaso land scam that’s associated with him and which is likely to resurface during campaigns.

Results of the social media opinion Poll.

Jumwa is currently giving ODM a run for its money in Ganda Ward by-election as the candidate she has endorsed, Omar Abdulrahman, alias Abdhere is ahead of his main rival, Reuben Katana. ODM should not only win Ganda by-election, but must do so by a landslide, or any outcome in favour of Jumwa would spell doom to the orange party in the region.
