All is not well in Kilifi  as Nurses in the county down their tools over a controversial staff medical scheme the nurses are up in arms against. Spot check today confirmed that operations in majority of county health facilities had been paralyzed as nurses question a suspicious medical cover being forced down their throats.

A letter seen by Daily Chronicles related to TENDER NO. KCG/DPSDM/750785 1-2019/2020, shows that the contract to provide medical insurance cover to Kilifi County health workers had been awarded to Resolution Insurance Company to the tune of Ksh. 197, 970,480. This was contrary to the expectations of the nurses who had demanded to be given comprehensive cover under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This happened even after the County Secretary had given a directive that there was to be no negotiations between the county government and Resolution Insurance company.

Grapevine has it that as it’s accustomed with the Kilifi County Government tendering process, corrupt County mandarins had already gobbled 10% kick backs from the said  company.

The strike is likely to further worsen the health  services in the county where the people of Kilifi are already suffering from lack of enough medical personnel and drugs in all health facilities.
