Thirdway Alliance Party Leader Dr. Ekuru Aukot has been suspended. In a letter by the Secretary-General Fredrick Okongo, dated August 26, 2020, Dr. Aukot was suspended from the party following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting resolution held on the same date at the party headquarters.
Reasons for suspension
Aukot is accused of verbally assaulting Dr. Angela Mwikali, the Deputy Party Leader, with despicable words that were circulated in social media. He committed the offense on February 1, 2020.
Another accusation leveled against him include embezzlement of funds and illegally transacting business using the party to enrich himself. He defied summons to appear before a disciplinary committee, thus leading to his suspension. the Punguza Mzigo champion solicited from donors sh 500 million which he failed to surrender to the party.
A lawyer and politician, Dr. Aukot was a third-tier candidate in the 2017 Kenyan general election. He sponsored the Punguza Mzigo Bill through a popular initiative and managed to garner 1.2 million signatures. The high court in Kenya and IEBC allowed the Punguza Mzigo Bill sponsored by the Thirdway Alliance to proceed in the 47 County Assemblies for debate.
