There is an acute shortage of water in Kilifi and Mombasa Counties. This is due to the huge unpaid electricity bills owed to Kenya Power. The two counties have failed to clear pending bills running to millions of shillings.

The water shortage comes at a time when the multimillion water project at Baricho pumping station has been completed. The project seeks to address the water problems in Kilifi and Mombasa.

It is not yet clear when the millions of shillings of power bills will be cleared, but residents are likely to suffer in the coming weeks. The responsible departments were yet to comment by the time of going to press.
